“In celebration of the band’s 150th anniversary, Pilling Jubilee Silver Band alongside Fold
House Park have commissioned a new composition specifically for the occasion. Pilling
is a charming and historic village located in Lancashire, England, known for its beautiful
landscapes and rich cultural heritage. One of the historic landmarks of Pilling is the local
single-track railway, which served from Garstang to Knott End on Sea; the Pilling Pig
served as a vital connection to the outside world for many years and got its name from its
whistle, as people would describe it at as sounding like a pig as it passed through or
stopped at the station in Pilling.
The music is inspired by Pilling Pig No. 11302, the train that now stands proudly on
display in the heart of the village, just outside Fold House Park. This locomotive holds a
special place in the history of Pilling, symbolising the spirit of community and progress
that has shaped the town over the decades. The new composition aims to capture the
essence of Pilling's history and the significance of the Pilling Pig, weaving together the
sounds and stories that define this unique village.”
